Permanent Secretary for Education, Dr. Anjeela Jokhan.

Permanent Secretary for Education, Dr. Anjeela Jokhan says Year 12 students who do not pass their exam will remain in Year 12 however the students’ performance will not just be determined by one exam.

When questioned by fijivillage on what would happen to Year 12 students after they sit for their external exam in February next year and if they will get a break while they wait for their results, Dr Jokhan says she will respond later.

She says the reason why they have external exams in Year 12 and 13 is that students progress based on exam results.

Doctor Jokhan says the details would be different for different countries but there are ways to ensure that students are not unduly penalized.

She adds one of the ways is to look at the history of a student’s performance.

She says they have several methods on the table and a lot of it would depend on how well and how poorly students have performed.

Doctor Jokhan says there are lot of combinations that they can have but they do not want to pre-empt anything at this stage.
