Education Minister Rosy Akbar says most of the students are asking about the suspension of the scholarships for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery which is under the National Toppers Scholarship Scheme.

While speaking to FNU students at the Valelevu campus, Akbar says they have been advised by the Tertiary Education Loans Board that they will be having road shows to ensure that those students who are affected will be guided into a different career pathway.

Akbar says as and when the suspension is lifted, they hope these students will be able to achieve their dream career by rejoining MBBS in the future.

She says the key word is suspension.

Akbar adds that 16,611 students are currently studying under the Tertiary Education Loans Scheme to the value of $93 million and that will continue under the new budget.

The Education Minister says TELS and Toppers have educated 44,870 students since 2014 with a total of just over $707 million invested in students.
