More than 15,000 high school students attended the Fiji National University’s (FNU) 2023 Open Day at the four campuses in Nasinu, Naduna, Namaka and Natabua today.

FNU Deputy Chancellor, Dr Alisi Talatoka Vudiniabola, emphasised the importance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Higher Education programmes at Fiji National University for high school students, which holds immense value and promise for a brighter future, not only for individuals but for our society and our beloved nation, Fiji.

“TVET equips students with practical skills and knowledge that are directly applicable to various industries. The world is evolving rapidly, and the demand for skilled workers in areas such as engineering, IT, healthcare, and hospitality is constantly growing. FNU's TVET programmes are designed to meet this demand and offer numerous career opportunities upon completion,” Dr Vudiniabola said.

“I encourage each and every one of you to explore and embrace these educational avenues, for they hold the key to a prosperous future for you and our beloved Fiji.”

FNU Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba said Open Day was an invaluable opportunity to explore the vast array of academic programmes, discover the rich tapestry of experiences that await you, and gain insight into the vibrant FNU community.

“The Fiji National University is here to guide you, nurture you, and empower you to transform those dreams into a reality that will shape a brighter future for yourselves and for our nation,” Professor Nabobo-Baba said.

“I assure you that we are committed to providing you with the best education, innovative research opportunities, and a supportive network that will enable you to not only chase your dreams but also surpass them."

“Education is the cornerstone upon which great societies are built, and each of you possesses the potential to contribute to the growth and prosperity of our beloved nation, Fiji. Through education, dreams take flight, ideas blossom into realities, and positive change is realised.”

Nuku Secondary School Head Girl, Josivini Maraduadua, said the Open Day was important as it helped students make the right decision.

“I am in Year 13, and I found the FNU Open Day was very educational for me and the other students,” she said.

“I want to become an auditor in the future, and I managed to get the information at the College booth and look forward to returning to FNU for tertiary studies.”

Noco Secondary School teacher Sharlyn Shiona Sinha attended the Open Day with students at the Nasinu Campus.

“The FNU Open Day was a great opportunity for the students to learn about the courses and programmes,” she said.

“There were a variety of displays by the University which students got to see.”
