Students behaviour on buses a concern - ACCF

Students are seen regularly behaving dangerously on buses, including sitting on window ledges with half of their bodies hanging out of the bus, and trying to hit or slap signposts along the road.

This was highlighted by Accident Compensation Commission Fiji CEO, Parvez Akbar, with recent concerned observations of dangerous and unruly behaviour by students on buses.

He reminds students, teachers, parents, bus drivers and owners of the importance of safety in buses as we get ready for the upcoming Coke Games.

Akbar says these actions can result in serious injuries and even death.

He adds the safety on buses is everyone’s responsibility and everyone needs to understand that bus drivers have significant responsibilities.

He says bus drivers must also ensure that the safety of their passengers and the public is paramount and it is critically important that bus drivers must only proceed with their journey when it is safe to do so.

Akbar adds teachers and schools can also assist by creating awareness with students about the importance of road safety while travelling in buses.

ACCF provides safety advice for students while travelling on buses, to enter a bus through the door, not rush and run inside a bus, obey the driver’s instructions, keep hands and legs inside the bus, and remain seated while the bus is moving.
