After the horrific accident that occurred near Lokuya Hill before Verata Junction along Kings Road that caused eight people to be admitted to the Korovou Health Centre, the Land Transport Authority is once again strongly urging all road users; drivers, passengers and pedestrians, to exercise caution and vigilance this festive season as reckless driving behaviours and disregard for road safety rules and regulations continue to put lives at risk on our roads.

LTA says whether the person is driving, walking, or riding as a passenger, their actions directly influence the safety of themself and others.

They say motorists are urged to obey speed limits, refrain from drunk driving and using mobile devices while driving, and always wear seat belts.

The Authority says driver fatigue is also a concern and drivers are urged to prepare well and get adequate rest to ensure a safe journey on the road.

They add pedestrians should use designated crosswalks, remain vigilant of traffic signals, and avoid distractions such as headphones or phones while walking near roadways.

LTA says passengers are reminded to wear seat belts when travelling in vehicles, and to avoid behaviour that distract the driver.

They say these measures are not mere guidelines but essential practices to prevent accidents and protect lives on our roads.

The Authority will continue to raise awareness about road safety through educational campaigns and enforcement efforts with the Fiji Police Force and various stakeholders.
