St. John’s Draiba causes major upset at Yalovata 7s kicking Police White out in the elimination rounds winning 14-7

BLK St. John’s Draiba caused the major upset of the Fiji Bitter Yalovata 7s tournament bundling favourites Police White out of the competition beating them 14-7 in the main cup elimination rounds today.

The Ovalau-based side was disciplined with their defence denying Police White every opportunity in the game.

St. John’s Draiba led 7-0 at halftime and extended their lead to 14-0 in the second half after pouncing on a loose ball from Police and scoring under the post.

Lack of concentration in the final minute of the game by St. John’s Draiba saw them give away multiple penalties which Police took advantage of and scored a converted try but it was too late as it was at the stroke of full time.

In other cup elimination matches, Wardens Gold beat Navy 17-12, BLK Lavidi beat Nasinu 8-0, Police Blue defeated Lami Cavaliers 19-5, Nakavu overcame Flame Tree Waimanu 5-0, Fiji Babas thumped Golden Eagles 39-0, Army defeated Mataravua 24-0 and Flame Tree Colo-i-Suva beat First Capital Brothers 10-5.

Meanwhile, in the cup quarter finals, Wardens Gold will take on BLK Lavidi Brothers in the first quarter final, Police Blue will play Nakavu in the scend quarter final, Fiji Babas will play St. John’s Draiba and Army Green will take on First Capital Brothers.

The quarter finals, semi finals and final of the Yalovata 7s tournament will be held tomorrow.
