British High Commissioner to Fiji George Edgar (3rd from L) with members of the Spinal Injury Association Fiji.

The British government has given $27,400 worth of equipment to the Spinal Injury Association Fiji.

The Acting Director for Spinal Injury Association Fiji Josko Wakaniyasi says the equipment will help women with disabilities in their organization to produce and sell items such as clothing, bags and jewellery.

He says with a number of families facing issues such as layoffs and reduced hours, this will assist women to provide for their families.

Wakaniyasi says this assistance will not only be limited to women with spinal injuries but women with disabilities in general.

British High Commissioner to Fiji George Edgar says he is confident that the assistance will enhance the association’s capacity and improve their products through training with modern tools and coaching provided by specialists.

Edgar says the association is currently utilizing sub-standard machines that neither have the capacity for adequate production nor create consistent quality of products.
