Acting Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu says they have had consultations with the Ministry of Economy regarding the 2021/2022 National Budget and they are happy that some of their recommendations have been taken on board.

Tudravu says this includes their intent to keep on improving service delivery as far as their operations are concerned.

He says they have worked within the guidelines on their proposal however they will continue to work with what is allocated to the Fiji Police Force.

The rapid rise of COVID-19 cases in the country has affected the daily operations of the Force as well where some officers have also tested positive.

They have divided their officers into three groups where one group looks at the routine operations, another group focuses on the COVID operations while the third group is on standby.

Police have also set up work bubbles to ensure continuity of operations as a precautionary measure where some officers have been away from their families for almost a month now.

The Fiji Police Force was allocated $200.6 million in the 2020/2021 National Budget.

This was mainly focused on the modernization of Police Stations in Nakasi, Nalawa, Nadi and Lautoka, the promotion of 257 officers as well as the recruitment of 137 new officers.

Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum will deliver the 2021/2022 National Budget address at 7.30pm Friday.
