The Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation says all recipients of its four main social protection programs can now withdraw their allowances and can prepare for Diwali before the usual payment date.

Minister Rosy Akbar says the usual payment is released after the 5th of each month, which would have fallen after Diwali this year and they did not want the recipients to be left out.

Akbar says the Department of Social Welfare made a conscious effort to ensure processes were fast-tracked in order to make the early payments possible.

She adds they want the recipients to enjoy their Diwali like everyone else.

Akbar is also urging people that in the spirit of Diwali, we share with the less fortunate.

Akbar says people must also be mindful while using fireworks and ensure it's used safely and does not harm anyone.

The Minister has also highlighted that animals must be taken care of during the festival.

Meanwhile, food vouchers are available from the first of every month, while monthly allowances will revert to usual payment dates from next month.
