The executives of the Dilkusha Excelsior Kickers Football Club in Nausori managed to raise funds and buy food items for the affected players’ families and community members who have been impacted by COVID-19 and have not been able to earn an income for over three weeks.

President, Neil Maharaj says members and supporters of the club are going through uncertainty and have major difficulties since the start of the containment zones.

Maharaj says it is for this reason they made a decision to assist the affected families in Dilkusha.

He says it is also their individual social responsibility to think about the welfare of the players which is beyond just soccer.

Maharaj says the club executives initiated an adopt a family program and they were able to assist 18 affected players and community members with food rations.

He says they were able to raise $1,100.

The funds were donated by Dilkusha Excelsior Kicker's Football Club executives, families and members of the community.

The food ration consisted of 12 basic food items like rice, dhal, potatoes, onions, garlic, oil, sugar, eggs, tinned mutton, tinned fish, biscuit and noodles which cost around $60 per pack.

Maharaj says the beneficiaries of the program were emotional and overwhelmed with the assistance provided during this difficult time.
