Let us remember that every small act of recycling contributes to a brighter and cleaner future for generations to come.

Assistant Minister for Education, Iliesa Vanawalu highlighted this during the launching of the first I-Recycle Hub in a university in Fiji.

The program implementation was done in partnership with Pacific Recycling Foundation and Waste Recyclers Fiji Limited.

Vanawalu says by recycling diligently, we conserve precious natural resources, protect our surroundings and set an example for others to follow.

He adds the Fiji National University is keen to introduce innovative measures in collaboration with their partners who are sustainability oriented.

Senior Academic at the FNU, Associate Professor Food Science, Dr Jimaima Lako says their vulnerability to climate emergency is a wake up call for all of us to commit to taking bold climate change mitigation and adaptive actions.

Lako says by declaring the climate emergency, FNU is committed to creating a more inclusive and resilient economy.

She further says this initiative not only promotes a sustainable environment, but also supports the informal waste pickers and transitioning to the formal sector.
