A single mother who is struggling to make ends meet is aiming to earn a living for her three children by working as a caregiver after graduating from the Makoi Women’s Vocational Training Centre.

Emily Ledua says the program is important for her as it is very difficult to look for a job due to COVID-19.

Ledua says she is currently selling food to provide for her family but it is not enough.

Ledua who stays in Tailevu travels daily Makoi to attend classes.

She adds she enjoys working as a caregiver as it enables her to take care of her family members as well.

Meanwhile, 49-year-old Sangita Narayan says she is hoping to start a catering business after graduating from the program.

Narayan says she has to look after her elderly mother-in-law and this is why she cannot go out to work.

She adds she has learnt a lot of new things through the program.

1,264 women have graduated from the Makoi Women’s Vocational Training Centre since its inception in 2015.

Most of these women come from underprivileged family who are financially unstable.

The Centre which provides training to women under their cooking, sewing and care-giving programs had their open day today where the women sold their products.

They will be having their graduation next week.
