Shivnesh Rao wins Junior Boys 1,500m barefoot and plans to do the same during Coca Cola Games

Lautoka Andhra Sangam College student Shivnesh Rao who won the Junior Boys 1,500 metres race at the Lautoka Zone, ran his race barefoot and plans to do the same during this year’s Coca Cola Games.

Rao says he feels that he slows down if uses track shoes.

He says he trains three times a day to snatch the gold from Natabua High School who had to settle for bronze medal today.

Rao is no stranger to the big stage having participated at many primary school athletics meets and coming third in last years Chow Games.

A very emotional Rao dedicated his win to his father who is a carpenter and struggles every day for his 7 siblings.

Pratik Gounder also from Lautoka Andhra Sangam College won the silver medal.

Meanwhile, Lautoka Andhra Sangam School and Ba Provincial Free Bird Institute School is currently leading boys and girls division at the Lautoka Zone competition.

Lautoka Andhra Sangam School is leading the boys division with 1 gold and 2 silver, Natabua High School is in second place with 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze, while Lautoka Muslim College is in third spot with 1 gold and 1 silver.

In the girls division, Ba Provincial Free Bird Institute School is leading with 1 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze, Jasper Williams High School is in second with 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze and Yasawa Secondary School is in third place with 1 gold.
