The Domo Vou Talei Competition 2023, Season 2 has been launched today where music enthusiasts submit a recording of their original song for a chance to win $5,000, professional training and a chance to perform at the Uprising Music Festival.

Australian Charge d’affaires Stuart Watts says this competition started last year to unearth the natural musical talent which is in abundance here in Fiji.

He says they want to create a platform that would take Fijian talent and showcase it to the world.

Last year they had over 130 songs submitted in the competition and 10 finalists were selected.

Watts says the competition has created artists that are now household names like Ju Ben and Jay Tauleka who sang the song Rosi ni Viti.

He says all 10 finalists will perform their original piece at the Uprising Music Festival where the Westpac Grand Prize winner will get $5,000, the Fiji Times People’s Choice winner will get $3,000 and Kaila Best Performance will get $1,000.

Watts thanks the major sponsor Westpac and the support of their partners CFL, Fiji Times, Kaila, Knox Entertainment, Tiny Sounds, Phil Dakei Music, Fiji Performing Rights Association, VTBop and FirstFighter to help grow this competition.

He encourages all Fijians to participate in the competition.

Communications Fiji Limited General Manager, Charles Taylor says music is our business and we are excited to be part of season 2 of the competition.

Taylor says they are excited to play the songs of the new artists on CFL’s 5 radio stations because CFL always supports local artists.
