Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has today clarified that if someone is living in Vanua Levu and their homes have suffered damages but their names are not in the title, they should have the ability to withdraw funds from FNPF under FNPF’s TC Yasa relief assistance.

Sayed-Khaiyum says there are people living in Labasa and their names are not on the title who are being assisted.

Sayed-Khaiyum highlighted that there was a lot of misuse of FNPF assistance after Tropical Cyclone Winston.

He says people withdrew $1000 saying they were going to help their relatives and $260 million was withdrawn.

Meanwhile, the National Federation Party says FNPF must ensure there are no restrictions imposed on members accessing their funds for assistance to rebuild their lives after being hit by TC Yasa.

NFP Vice-President Parmod Chand says many FNPF members have informed him that they do not qualify for assistance to repair or start rebuilding their homes because it is not owned by them despite the owner being their parents or immediate family through marriage.
