Former Hurricanes captain Ardie Savea has been named to captain Moana Pasifika for the 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season.
The loose forward has played 94 Tests for the All Blacks and will make his Moana Pasifika debut this year, bringing over a decade of experience and leadership at the highest level.
The 31-year-old says he is honoured to lead Moana Pasifika, and he believes it is God’s purpose for him to lead.
Savea says when he signed with the team, coach Tana Umaga spoke to him about it, and after spending some time talking to his wife and those close to him, he realised it was the right decision to say yes.
Moana Pasifika will face the Force next Saturday at 8.35pm in their first match of the season.
In other matches, the Crusaders will meet the Hurricanes at 6.05pm next Friday, the Waratahs to play the Highlanders at 8.35pm next Friday, the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua will host the Brumbies at 3.35pm next Saturday, and the Blues will take on the Chiefs at 6.05pm next Saturday.
