A winner of the ‘Wave of Change’ European Union Pacific art competition says she wants to use her art as a medium to inspire others to speak out and end violence against women.

Anna Saumaki of Jai Narayan College was part of this competition which aimed at involving young people in a regional dialogue on issues that underline gender-based violence.

The year 12 student says her painting describes the deprived women of our society and the pain they go through.

Saumaki and Eleni Kamil were joint winners in the 16 years and over category, Hansika Khatri won the 8-11 year old category, while Monica Fong won the public choice award which received most likes and shares on social media.

Fong who is a student at International Secondary School says she also wants to inspire girls and women to always remain confident and believe in their ability.

These students were rewarded with stationery packs, back packs, and arts packs.
