Police Constable Eimely Lynn Saufaasi is hoping to change the mindset of youths in her village after completing a four-month training at the Nasova Training Academy.

Saufaasi was part of the 217 new recruits that passed out on Friday.

The Buca Bay woman says her village is well-known for marijuana farming, and it's a red zone and after joining the Fiji Police Force, she hopes to change their mindset and tell them that marijuana farming is wrong.

She also highlighted that one of the reasons she joined the Force is to provide for her son, as she is a single mother.

Saufaasi says it was hard for her to leave her son with her parents and move to Suva for training.

She says she faced a lot of challenges during the training, and she wanted to give up in the 4th week because she failed her first RFL training.

She adds the instructors kept pushing them forward, motivating them and reminding them of where they are from and the struggles their families had to go through to ensure they end up here.

Saufaasi says with her new job, she will be able to provide a better life for her son and her parents.

The 24-year-old will be posted at the Tukavesi Police Station in Vanua Levu.
