Residents of the new subdivision in Sakoca are urging the police to increase security in their neighborhood following a surge in theft cases over the past month.

President of the Sakoca Crime Prevention Committee, Sunil Prasad, expressed these concerns to fijivillage News, stating that the issue was raised during a recent community meeting, with some residents reporting incidents to the police.

Prasad claimed that several unidentified youths have been seen loitering in the area, which has led to the increase in thefts and these individuals often hide in large drains and then target people returning from work.

He also emphasised the need for a stronger police presence, including random checks and regular patrols, to ensure the safety of the residents.

In response to inquiries, Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, ACP Livai Driu, told fijivillage News that efforts are underway to strengthen the Sakoca Crime Prevention Committee, as recent reports indicate that the suspects are from within the community.

ACP Driu added that the police are intensifying their efforts to address the criminal activities in the area and will increase their presence in the neighborhood. He also assured that the safety and security of the residents will be prioritised, especially during the upcoming Diwali celebrations.
