More than 40 volunteers gathered at the Sanjeevani Heart Hospital to participate in the packing of 600 packs of “Bucket Full of Love” for the families affected by TC Yasa in the outer islands.

This is an initiative by the Sai Prema Foundation and they are working in collaboration with the Laxmi Narayan Temple and Hanuman Chalisa Pariwaar to help people back on their feet.

The Bucket Full of Love contains food items such as rice, flour, split peas, milk powder, breakfast crackers, tea bags and juice and other essential items such as dental kits, blankets, sanitary pads, new clothes, mosquito nets and building kits such as straps, hammer and nails.

Director, Sumeet Tappoo says Panamex Group in New Zealand has donated $40,000 and Nags Fashion Footwear has donated 600 pairs of shoes towards this phase of assistance.

Tappoo says they had initially planned to assist 500 families but they realise that the need is more in the outer islands.

He says they are working with the UN to distribute these packs and their teams will be leaving by the end of this week.

Tappoo says their third phase of assistance will be in the North which will have more than 400 packs.

The Foundation has already assisted 7,000 people so far.
