SODELPA General Secretary Lenaitasi Duru

SODELPA has refuted the wild allegations recently made by an outgoing Opposition MP, that an “alleged complaint” came from within the party, resulting in MP’s being investigated and some eventually charged and convicted.

SODELPA General Secretary Lenaitasi Duru says they categorically deny any such involvement however they will fully uphold the rule of law and reiterate, that no one is above the law.

Duru adds they are fully aware that the same former Secretary General to Parliament, had discussed the issue with the former Opposition Leader, Sitiveni Rabuka and former Opposition Whip, Lynda Tabuya, seeking their assistance and intervention on the matter, regarding the MPs in question.

He says they failed to address it which led to the current legal proceedings and convictions.

Duru says that former Secretary General to Parliament, Viniana Namosimalua has already revealed in court that Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama had sent her a Viber message about specific MP’s of whom the PM had received reports, claiming allowances that they were not entitled to.

He adds that this revelation clearly identifies that the Prime Minister was the complainant, which led to the FICAC investigation.

The SODELPA General Secretary says SODELPA will continue to uphold the law of the land and trusts all elected representatives on both sides of the House to conduct themselves ethically in all their affairs in and out of Parliament.
