Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and Deputy Prime Minister and SODELPA Leader Viliame Gavoka

Deputy Prime Minister and SODELPA Leader, Viliame Gavoka has today stressed that the official SODELPA position is that they will support the Deputy Prime Minister, the SODELPA Ministers and the Coalition Government.

While speaking to fijivillage News, Gavoka says this official SODELPA position was clearly articulated by their youth in their recent AGM.

Gavoka has made this clear following a Fiji Sun report today saying that Gavoka is expected to deliver a letter to the Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, highlighting their grievances to be honoured.

The report claims SODELPA will give an ultimatum to the Prime Minister to respond within 7 days, and the party will choose to go with the FijiFirst Party if it is not satisfied.

The grievances include the party’s diplomatic mission postings to the United Kingdom, Washington DC and the Roving Ambassador to the Pacific yet to be finalised and SODELPA to have a nominee to the Electoral Commission, Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission and the Public Service Commission.

SODELPA sources have told fijivillage News that the resolution to support the current coalition stands and they have committed to it.

However they say in their management board meeting, issues were raised on why there have been delays and why their agreement was still not being honoured on the agreed diplomatic posts and nominees to the commissions.

The sources say there was a suggestion made during the discussion for Gavoka to give Rabuka an ultimatum of 7 days or the party will defect to the FijiFirst Party. However they say this was not the final resolution after the meeting.

They say this is now being misinterpreted as the final decision and a threat.

The sources also dismiss rumours being circulated that there will be a change of government during the parliament sitting starting on the 11th of this month.

We have sought further comments from Gavoka.

SODELPA will issue an official statement soon.
