SODELPA calls on Govt to exercise duty of care when dealing with helpless Veiraisi residents

SODELPA Leader Viliame Gavoka

SODELPA Leader, Viliame Gavoka has strongly condemned Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum’s reported comments “Veiraisi Settlement Eviction: There are many people like that in Fiji”.

Gavoka says it is a little difficult squaring that with Sayed-Khaiyum’s comments on 12th October, 2022, that “we need to love each other and be good to each other as the strength of a country lies in the people”.

He says SODELPA reminds the government that although there are indeed many people like that in Veiraisi, they are duty bound to exercise duty of care to mitigate their current dilemma.

Gavoka says the Government is for the people and those in Veiraisi in Nadera deserve no less.

SODELPA also reminds the FijiFirst government that the late former Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase and his SDL Government had successfully relocated two settlements near the former Suva Pony Club and Kilikali of Nepani to Davuilevu.

Gavoka says this was through direct negotiation by a leader who had skills in dealing with such issues as that faced by the people in Veiraisi.

He says a SODELPA Government will continue the pathway as set by the late former Prime Minister.
