Youth President, Ben Daveta

The SODELPA Youth Council has reiterated its stand to the SODELPA Management Board that they do not support the idea of a coalition with the FijiFirst Party and any undertaking with the sitting government that they have all complained about over the last 16-years.

Youth President, Ben Daveta has said in a letter to the party’s management board that they would like to remind the board that the legacy of the former SDL and its founders is now coming to full circle and will SODELPA end the legacy of this troubled 16-years of dictatorial leadership or help perpetuate in joining the oppressors.

He further says the management board should think carefully before they trend into their endeavours as it may harm the people’s trust and support.

Daveta adds SODELPA’s vision is to return Fiji to true democracy of inclusive, reviewed and consultation approach for the betterment of the people.

Daveta says the party, whose founder, the late Laisenia Qarase was couped by the current FijiFirst Party Leader is now being offered a place in his bed, and agreeing to consider them shows the desperation and compromised approach SODELPA is taking.

He says such move may hurt and result in the tremendous shift of their supporters to the newly established People’s Alliance Party.

Daveta says the Council wishes to sanction the move and denounce any relations or ties with the oppressors that have ruled over Fiji over the last 16 years.

The Council President is begging the executives to consider wisely and inclusively on the party’s move.

Daveta says the people are the party’s source of strength and therefore their voice is what they shall recognise.

He says as much as they hold a personal grudge towards People’s Alliance Leader Sitiveni Rabuka, he may be the only option they can take to work with given their unresolved issues.

Daveta says SODELPA is known for its principles, therefore, the party’s integrity to the voters is supreme.

He says they may have personal reasons but the people take precedence.

The Council President adds the party’s survival is at stake and the way forward is for a coalition to form government against the running government.

Daveta questions the board if they prefer to continue and be whitewashed with all the emotions that had clouded their ability to see past the Canaan that we now see.

He hopes their views are considered on the way forward.

Daveta adds trust takes forever to earn but it takes a single mistake to ruin it and they are speaking as successors to the party.

He says SODELPA should think carefully and wisely before they venture any further.
