Swire Shipping Fijian Drua prop Mesake Doge

The road to recovery was one of the most challenging times that Swire Shipping Fijian Drua and Fiji Water Flying Fijians prop Mesake Doge had to endure in his rugby journey.

In an interview with fijivillage News, Doge shared how he had to deal with rehabilitation and recovery as he tried to make a comeback into the professional rugby scene.

Doge says it was not easy as it is something that he had to work through alone.

He says last year, he had to make the hardest decision to undergo surgery for his knee, but he was grateful that he got through it and managed to come back stronger.

He adds after the surgery, following his rehabilitation routine was not easy but it got him ready for the recent Rugby World Cup that was held in France this year where he helped the Flying Fijians reach the quarter finals after 16 years.

Doge says he was also grateful to have gotten a chance to play the last four matches of the 2023 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season for the Drua and he was proud of how he pulled through.

Doge says the main backbone of him trying to make a comeback is looking at what he can do to help Fiji Rugby do what other tier 1 nations can do and giving his best to be where he is now.

Doge is now turning his focus to next year’s Super Rugby Pacific season and is hoping to help the Drua go one better from the recent season where the team made history by reaching the quarter finals in just their second year in the competition.

The Drua will start their 2024 Super Rugby Pacific campaign against the Blues on the 24th of February in Auckland.
