As Fijians celebrate World Maritime Day, Minister for Transport Ro Filipe Tuisawau has made a call to the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji to adhere to maritime compliance which refers to the adherence to laws, regulations, guidelines and specifications relevant to the maritime operations.

While officiating at the event, Ro Filipe expressed his gratitude to those who participated in the march and emphasised that the theme of the day, “Navigating the Future, Safety First” highlights Fiji’s dedication to safety, innovation and sustainable practices within the maritime industry.

He says the theme holds special meaning for Fiji, a nation whose identity is tied closely to the ocean.

He says Fiji's oceans are not only vital lifelines but also essential pathways for trade, economic development and assistance for all Fijians.

The Minister also reminded everyone that safety is not just about protecting lives at sea, it is about safeguarding the marine environment and ensuring that regulations keep up with technological advances that are transforming the industry.

Ro Filipe stressed that the future of the maritime industry, the economy, and the health of the ocean depends on the efforts of every Fijian.
