Residents of Pritam Singh road frustrated by sewer spill

Residents of Pritam Singh Road in Nasinu are enduring a persistent foul odor from two nearby sewer bursts, causing mounting frustration and concern as they await action from the Water Authority of Fiji.

Despite reaching out to WAF multiple times over the past few months, the residents alleged that they have only received assurances that a team would be dispatched to resolve the issue, yet no visible steps have been taken to fix the burst pipes.

One resident, who prefers to remain anonymous, told fijivillage News that WAF initially promised a team would be on-site months ago.

However, the continuing problem has left residents skeptical, feeling that their complaints are met with false promises.

The foul odor from the sewer spills has made daily life unbearable for the community, impacting both their health and quality of life.

The spill flows into a nearby drain that connects to a local stream and has severely impacted the stream’s ecosystem, making fishing impossible and depriving residents of a local food source.

Residents are now urging WAF to take immediate and effective action, emphasizing the importance of addressing the sewer bursts both for their own well-being and the preservation of their local environment. In response to the questions from fijivillage News, WAF stated that a team had been dispatched yesterday to fix the issue. However, the main sewer remains closed, while the second sewer is yet to be closed.
