Hundreds turned up in the Capital City to witness the opening of the refurbished Ratu Sukuna Park.

While opening the new refurbished park, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica says the Ratu Sukuna Park we see today is a transformation from its original form — a reflection of our nation’s progress and our commitment to urban renewal.

He says this newly upgraded park now features modern amenities such as a new podium structure, design night lights, modern park furniture, a digital screen with surround sound, and an improved landscape that blends hardscape with green space.

Kamikamica says the new water feature complements Ratu Sukuna’s monument, adding a serene ambience to the park.

The Deputy Prime Minister adds this park is more than just a green space as it is an island within our bustling city, offering peace, tranquillity, creativity, and a fresh beginning.

The Deputy Prime Minister says it is a place where everyone can take a moment to breathe, gather with loved ones, and set a new direction in life.

Kamikamica was accorded a traditional welcoming ceremony by the Yavusa Bativuda of Kalokolevu Village.

Attending the opening ceremony was the Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga, Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Lynda Tabuya and Assistant Minister Sashi Kiran, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Lenora Qereqeretabua, foreign dignitaries, business people and the public.

A traditional dance was performed by the students of Ratu Sukuna Memorial School.

According to the Minister for Housing, the Ratu Sukuna Park redevelopment project budget was reduced to $7 million after the Suva City Council removed the two-level cafeteria, which was part of the initial $13 million funding by the previous administration in 2020.
