Most of the sixty-five arrests for COVID-19 related restrictions in the last 24 hours were in relation to people found playing touch rugby and volleyball.

Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho says there were 59 arrests in the Southern Division. He says 40 of the arrests in the Southern Division were in relation to sporting activities.

The Southern Division includes Samabula, Tamavua, Tacirua, Nabua and Nasinu, and other areas outside of the Suva Central area.

Qiliho says seven people including two juveniles were arrested in Naitonitoni, Navua as they were found playing touch rugby. He says in Galoa, seven men were also arrested for playing volleyball.

The Police Commissioner says 10 men including a 15-year-old were arrested as they were playing touch rugby along Reservoir Road in Suva.

He says a second report recorded in Samabula saw the arrest of 16 tertiary school students who were found playing touch rugby at the FNU School of Nursing ground.

There were 4 reports of curfew breaches in the Western Division while two reports were recorded in the Eastern Division.
