President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu and First Lady Emily Lalabalavu hosted a welcome reception for the President of the Republic of Kiribati, Taneti Maamau, at State House yesterday evening.

Ratu Naiqama extended heartfelt congratulations to Maamau on his re-election for a third term.

He expressed sincere gratitude for the Kiribati leader's visit, emphasizing the strong ties between the two nations, which have shared 46 years of friendship.

Ratu Naiqama says the friendship is built on deep historical and cultural ties, strong people-to-people links, mutual respect and a shared understanding of regional priorities and development aspirations.

He has also acknowledged the contributions of the Banaba people, who call Rabi Island their home.

The President also acknowledged the contributions of the Fiji diaspora in Kiribati towards the development of Kiribati.

While reaffirming Fiji's commitment to its Pacific Vuvale, Ratu Naiqama said Fiji values the friendship with the Pacific family, which aligns with their belief in the Pacific as an Ocean of Peace.

He says they look forward to strengthening collaboration in areas of mutual interest for the betterment of the livelihoods of the Pacific people.

While responding, Maamau expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome extended by the people and Government of Fiji during the 3-day state visit.

Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, Cabinet Ministers, and members of the diplomatic corps were also present at the reception.
