The Nadi Weather Office says due to an active trough of low pressure that remains slow moving just to the west of Viti Levu, rain continues and is expected to persist over the group until early Saturday morning.

They say heavy rain is expected to ease on Saturday with some sunny breaks however the Nadi Weather Office says on Sunday, due to another trough of low pressure that is anticipated to approach Fiji from the South-West, showers with isolated heavy falls will start to affect most parts of the country again until early next week.

It adds a heavy rain warning remains in place for Korolevu, Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki, Vatulele, Kadavu, Yasawa, Mamanuca Groups and Southern Lau Group.

A flash flood warning is now in place for low lying areas, crossings and flood prone areas within Tuva Catchment from Emuri to Semo Village, Nadi Catchment and Vitogo Catchment.

A flash flood alert remains in place for the rest of the low lying areas and flood prone areas in the interior and western parts of Viti Levu from Sigatoka to Rakiraki, Sigatoka, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki area and Kadavu.

Meanwhile, a tropical low is expected to deepen during the weekend over the Coral Sea and move south-east towards New Caledonia.

The system is not anticipated to have any direct effect on Fiji.
