Former Prime Minister and Leader of the People’s Alliance, Sitiveni Rabuka says they have a lot of work to do based on people’s expectations after the party was registered today.

Rabuka says he believes in the goodness of human beings despite many negative comments being made when he filed the application to register the party.

He says they will also have a party meeting soon to make appointments, and focus on the preparations for the 2022 general elections.

The People’s Alliance has been registered as Fiji’s latest political party after the Registrar of Political Parties, Mohammed Saneem, approved the application that had been made on 12th August this year.

Saneem says they received one objection which was dealt with and thereafter it has been found that the applicant has successfully furnished all the particulars required under the law and hence the party has been duly registered.

The People’s Alliance is the 10th registered political party under the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures) Act 2013.

The total number of registered parties in Fiji currently stands at 8.

Rabuka previously led the former Soqosoqo ni Vakavulewa ni Taukei from 1992 to 1999 which won the 1992 and 1994 general elections.

They lost the elections in 1999 to the People’s Coalition led by Mahendra Chaudhry.

Rabuka was the SODELPA Leader in the 2018 general elections however he resigned from parliament and left SODELPA in December last year.
