As Japan continues discharging treated Fukushima nuclear waste water, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says they continue to request the Government of Japan to continue to take measures in accordance with international safety standards to ensure no transboundary harm to the Blue Pacific continent happens.

While delivering his ministerial statement on his participation in the Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting in Japan, Rabuka says he met with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida where he informed him of their gratitude to the Government of Japan for its transparency and honesty in dealing with the Advanced Liquid Processing System, ALPS.

He says they acknowledge Japan's commitment to keeping the forum leaders and global community fully informed of the measures being taken to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the ALPS process.

Leader of the Opposition of the Group of 16 Bloc, Inia Seruiratu has thanked the Prime Minister for highlighting the issue on the Fukushima nuclear waste.

He also thanked the Japanese Ambassador as his Office was provided with an update on the scientific assessment of the waste.

He adds they hope that they will continue to have dialogue with the Japanese Government as they progress when more of such waste is dumped into the Pacific.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Group of 9 Bloc Ioane Naivalarua has requested for Japanese assistance to construct a hospital at Black Rock in Nadi to help the Lautoka and Nadi area.
