There are principles, rights and freedom that surround the Constitution and there is no favouritism in the appointments done by the government.

This has been highlighted by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka while officiating at the induction workshop for Permanent Secretaries.

Rabuka says appointments must be made based on merits in a working environment free of discrimination and is apolitical, neutral, impartial and professional.

Rabuka says the appointments that are being made are not only done by one person but by the government and if the appointee is not living up to the expectations, everyone is blamed.

He says there has been equal opportunity, training and advancements for members of all ethnic groups and genders to ensure that a fair and rewarding workplace is provided with achievement of results and management of performance.

Rabuka says policies and services are to be implemented effectively, efficiently and courteously, giving frank, honest and timely advice and maintaining high ethical standards with the government, the parliament and the people taking full accountability.

He says we cannot be blaming one person and saying he or she did it, but all we can say is yes, we did, we are guilty and we promise to improve.

The Prime Minister says the government’s special interest is to develop and maintain quality leadership, particularly through the senior executive services.
