Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka stresses any amendments to the Constitution will be done under the Constitution.

While speaking after the cabinet meeting, Rabuka says the process is clearly stated in the 2013 Constitution.

Rabuka also says people should not be worried.

When asked on whether he has had any discussions with the Army Commander regarding the Republic of Fiji Military Forces statement, Rabuka says he does not have any direct communication with the Commander as he is under the Minister for Home Affairs, Pio Tikoduadua.

Meanwhile government broadcaster, FBC had earlier reported that there was a meeting between Major General Jone Kalouniwai and Rabuka this afternoon.

fijivillage News confirms there was no such meeting as Major General Kalouniwai only met with Minister for Home Affairs, Pio Tikoduadua at the Government Buildings.

Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, Pio Tikoduadua

Minister for Home Affairs, Pio Tikoduadua says he has assured the Commander of the RFMF, Major General Jone Kalouniwai that all the government’s actions have been guided by the law.

While speaking in a press conference this afternoon, Tikoduadua says he had a cordial meeting with the Commander, and Major General Kalouniwai has assured him that he will no longer be making any public statement such as the one earlier today.

He says the Commander had raised concerns over the statement made by the Tourism Minister regarding the re-employment of ATS workers, in particular, the 200 people that were let go.

The Minister says the second issue was the matter of the appointments of the diplomats.

He says he summoned the Commander to tell him of his concerns regarding what he had said.

The Minister also highlighted that the Commander’s statement was sensationalised by the press, where he is concerned that FBC is inciting and misrepresenting what Kalouniwai had said, and they were corrected by the Commander.

Tikoduadua says the Commander has pledged himself today to support the government.

We have sent questions to the FBC.
