People’s Alliance Party Leader Sitiveni Rabuka says his government will give USP its full support.

While speaking during the launch of his party in Nadi today, Rabuka says he wants to assure USP students, staff and donors that his party will right the wrongs inflicted upon it by the government.

Rabuka says the government is withholding close to $60 million which Fiji owes to USP.

Meanwhile, Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has already made it clear that the Fijian government will not release the grants to the University of the South Pacific until there is proper transparency at the university.

Sayed-Khaiyum had said there needs to be an inquiry into the various anomalies highlighted by the Pro-Chancellor Winston Thompson and the Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee, Mahmood Khan.

He had added there is no transparency in the way USP has conducted it’s work, the way that appointments are made and the way some of the finances are being dealt with.

Vice Chancellor Professor Pal Ahluwalia says he has already been cleared five times after independent audits and his employer, USP Council has approved his new contract.
