Prime Minister and Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum Sitiveni Rabuka has called on Pacific Islanders to unite for a better Pacific.

While speaking during the Forum welcoming ceremony, Rabuka says we are one big community, a village and a family.

Rabuka adds he can only reciprocate the honour of serving the Forum in the remaining term and continue as a member after he hands over to his successor.

The Prime Minister says the Forum was built on the firm and strong relationships that the founding fathers had.

Meanwhile, Forum Secretary General Henry Puna says they are ready to work closely with Rabuka as Chair of the Forum.

He says the achievements of the Prime Minister in the region, give the regional family a fighting chance of successfully eradicating the issues of the Pacific region.

Prime Minister Rabuka was accorded the i-Taukei tradition of Vakasobu before being led to the conference room by a representative of the Solomon Islands.

The traditional welcome ceremony was conducted by the Tongan Community in Fiji.
