RKS and ACS leads boys and girls division of Day 1 of the 2019 Coca-Cola Games

It is truly a tight race on Day 1 of competition in the 2019 Coca-Cola Games as many schools from outside the Central Division are battling hard to take medals home to make their families and schools proud.

Defending champion in the boys division, Ratu Kadavulevu School is leading with 1 gold and 1 silver.

Nadogo Secondary School from Macuata is second with 1 gold and 1 bronze. 

Natabua High School from Lautoka, Suva Grammar School, Xavier College from Ba and Sigatoka Methodist High School and Tavua College are in third place with 1 gold medal each.

Marist Brothers High School is in fourth place with 2 silver and 3 bronze medals.

Defending girls division champions of the Coca-Cola Games, Adi Cakobau School is leading the Medal Tally after the end of all the girls’ events on Day 1 of the Coke Games.

ACS is leading with 2 gold and 3 silver medals.

Saint Joseph’s Secondary School is in second place with 1 gold and 2 bronze medals, Nuku Secondary from Serua, Xavier College from Ba and Levuka Public School are in third place with 1 gold medal each.

Yeshnil Karan of Tavua College caused a major upset in the Senior Boys 1500 metres after he won the gold medal beating Petero Veitaqomaki of Marist Brother’s High School in the race.

Veitaqomaki settled for silver while Tomasi Delana of Nadogo Secondary School got bronze.

In the Intermediate Boys 1,500, Suva Grammar School’s Abraham Mallam won gold which is the school’s first medal in the boys division, Mavileko Tuvuki from RKS finished in second place while Allen Raibiriki from Marist finished in third place.

Meanwhile, John Aryan broke from the group of athletes in the last lap of the Junior Boys 1500m to win gold for Xavier College this afternoon.

Rayash Kumar of Labasa College got the silver while Natabua High School’s Iosefo Waqawai settled for the bronze medal.

Earlier this afternoon:

Vilimoni Susunikoro of Ratu Kadavulevu School has won the gold medal in the Junior Boys Javelin with a record throw of 50.52 metres.

This is the first gold medal for the boys defending champions this year.

Leone Varayame of Saint Thomas High School settled for the silver medal while Jona Veta-rogi-vanua of Niusawa Methodist High School from Taveuni is taking home the bronze medal.

He has dedicated the win to his grandparents who played a huge role in his upbringing.

 In the girl’s division, Adi Cakobau School is leading with 1 gold and 2 silver, Saint Joseph’s is second with 1 gold and 2 bronze while Levuka Public, Xavier College and Nuku Secondary are third with 1 gold each.

Seini Caucauqoli of Saint Joseph’s won gold, Makareta Mara of Suva Grammar School won silver while Phylippa Pickering of Saint Joseph’s took out the bronze medal.

Gold medal winner, Caucauqoli was a former student of Niusawa Methodist High School in Taveuni and has won her first gold medal.

She says that the memory of her late mother is what she had in mind when she attempted her final throw and she dedicates her win to her parents.

 

Earlier this morning:

Lisa Lockington of Xavier College from Ba has won the first gold medal of the 2019 Coca-Cola Games after winning the Junior Girls High Jump.

Yvonne Nalewabau of Adi Cakobau School and Elizabeth Joy of Labasa College both took silver medals in the event.

Lockington says that she was determined to win gold this year and thanked her coach and sister, Shawntell Lockington for pushing her to better her jumps during training leading up to the Coke Games.

Lisa’s elder sister, Shawntell Lockington broke a 32-year-old record in the Junior Girls High Jump in the Coca‑Cola Games 2017 and currently holds the national record of 1.71 metres while the old record was 1.62 metres set way back in 1985.

Veronika Mateo of ACS has taken out the gold medal for the defending champions in the Intermediate Girls Triple Jump, Mereseni Waqatoki of Suva Grammar School has the silver while Avelina Navue of Saint Joseph’s Secondary School has won the bronze medal.

Sovaia Vusona of Levuka Public School has won gold in the Senior Girls Long Jump event, Luse Qasevakatini of Nasinu Secondary School is taking home the silver while Maria Veitoyaki of Saint John’s College has taken the bronze medal.

The gold medal is going to Serua after Mereoni Kutu of Nuku Secondary School won gold in the Junior Girls Javelin. Mereani Solevu of ACS is taking the silver medal while Laisiana Miranalasekula of Gau Secondary School is taking home the bronze medal.

Looking at the boy’s division, Solomone Kaulotukionio of Nadogo Secondary School of Macuata has won gold in the Intermediate Boys Discus. Maximus Lestro of Lelean Memorial School has settled for silver while Iosefo Tagivetaua of Marist settled for bronze.

It is great news for Natabua High School’s Tiko Batibasaga as he has won the gold medal in the Senior Boys Shot Put. Josefa Vucago of Marist settled for the silver medal while Gordon Whippy also of Marist is taking home the bronze medal.
