FijiFirst Party Leader, Voreqe Bainimarama has stressed to the people of Seaqaqa that the military had to step in to stop the continuous racial discrimination by the government led by the late former Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase.

While speaking in the FijiFirst rally in Seaqaqa, Bainimarama says many people did not like what the RFMF did however what people are forgetting is the ill-treatment against the Indo Fijian community.

Bainimarama says this was one of Fiji’s darkest times.

He says the RFMF’s intention was to step in to provide protection for the vulnerable, and that is why they also put everyone to be called Fijian in the 2013 Constitution.

Bainimarama says it is important for people to understand this piece of history as it shapes our future.

Meanwhile he says that one of the people that was involved in the process of trying to get the position of Youth and Sports Minister during the George Speight 2000 coup was Peceli Rinakama who is one of the People’s Alliance Party candidates.

The FijiFirst Leader says the RFMF was also holding back in 2000 as they saw the involvement of chiefs and church ministers.

He believes that the main cause of the events of 1987 and 2000 was greed.

He adds that after 2001, the late Qarase had forgotten about their initial discussion and had brought back the exact thing that the military was trying to eliminate, which was racial discrimination.
