People residing along Nausori to Korovou can expect quick and fast internet services after Telecom Fiji launched its Nausori-Korovou Fibre Project today.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Inia Seruiratu says this launch compliments the concerted efforts of the Government in improving infrastructure and growing digital connectivity.

He says this further realises the vision of the country's national development plan for transforming Fiji towards even a more progressive, vibrant and inclusive society.

Seruiratu says during the pandemic, they saw an upsurge in embracing of digital technology by the people of Fiji.

He adds data usage saw a 23% surge post COVID.

The Acting Prime Minister says they understand that this project will bring positive improvement, not only in terms of development, particularly on connectivity.

Telecom Fiji CEO Charles Goundar says they are committing over $180 million in fibre infrastructure over the next 5 years to ensure Fiji remains at the forefront of ICT technology.

He says this also marks another important phase as they commence fibre optic cable replacement along Nausori to Korovou.

Goundar says in this digital age, remaining connected with families, friends and loved ones has become a part and way of life and investments in fibre provides the backbone network infrastructure which facilitates digital connectivity.

The project is expected to be completed by February next year.
