Police Commissioner, Sitveni Qiliho

Police Commissioner, Sitveni Qiliho has reassured the citizens of Fiji that Police operations will continue in terms of keeping the crime rates low.

He says that statistics over the last year and in the last 5 years show that the crime rates have decreased significantly, more so, due to the curfew regulations.

However he says the challenge now is to keep it that way for the foreseeable future.

Qiliho revealed that there were no road fatalities recorded last month which is the first time that this has happened in 30 years.

He stated that checkpoints have been lifted and they have relied more on mobility, snap checkpoints and some static positions to monitor movements and deal with those that break the law.

The Commissioner also mentioned that the Police is more focused on rural areas during curfew hours therefore more interactions with the communities will take place due to the lifting of COVID regulations.

Despite the removal of the curfew, Qiliho says Police will remain on its toes to counter anyone that breaks the laws.
