It is everyone’s responsibility to maintain and sustain a clean environment because it is the source of our livelihood.

This has been highlighted by Queen Victoria School Deputy Head Boy, David Toganivalu after the launching of 2024 Global Recycling Day at their school.

Toganivalu says this initiative by the Pacific Recycling Foundation has broadened their knowledge of keeping the environment clean and disposing of rubbish in a proper way.

The QVS Principal, Timoci Vosailagi says today’s event will mark a change in the mindset of students and teachers in school as they want them to become good leaders of tomorrow.

Vosailagi says students are taught to be resilient and the best practice in moving forward is working together to tackle the climate crisis.

He says when students go out of QVS they need to be the advocates of recycling, not only in their community but in the country as well.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka says waste management will continue to be a global challenge in the modern consumer culture and the economy.

Rabuka says despite technological advancement and increased advocacy, global waste management remains a pressing crisis.

He adds we need to make better choices as consumers by keeping our oceans, beaches and land from pollution-free.

QVS is the 4th school in Fiji to be introduced with the Recycling On The Go Program.
