Wame Vosayaco, the newly elected Head Boy of MGM High School

Wame Vosayaco, the newly elected Head Boy of MGM High School, is looking at removing the barrier of racial differences that has infested our people and hopes people will learn to love and accept each other.

While speaking at the school's prefect induction held at the Kshatriya Hall in Suva, Vosayaco says he attended MGM High School from Year 9 and it is an honour to be the school head boy.

He says the school has moulded and nurtured leaders of Fiji who have contributed immensely towards various businesses around the country.

Vosayaco says as an iTaukei student, people often looked down on him and his induction today signifies that through unity and hard work, iTaukei students can also be leaders in an indo-Fijian-dominated school.

He says MGM has built his character and leadership skills over the years and is grateful for the opportunity.

When questioned about the changes he would like to bring about in the school, he stresses that he wants to curb truancy cases.

Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu says the students have been selected based on criteria to meet the threshold of what their teachers want in a prefect, a custodian of the school rules and regulations.

Tudravu says prefects can choose to either be a positive or negative influence on their peers.

He says the prefect’s badge represents authority that comes with responsibilities and that authority can be easily compromised if they operate from a place of uncertainty.
