Public inquiry regarding possible fraudulent transactions in relation to lot allocation by Housing Authority to begin this month

The Housing Authority of Fiji has firmed up the schedule for the public inquiry which will look into the possible irregularities and fraudulent transactions in relation to allocation of lots by the Authority in the past 10 years.

The public inquiry will be done from the 28th of August to the 9th of September in various areas in the Central, Western and Northern Divisions.

The Chairperson of the Housing Authority of Fiji, Lorraine Seeto is urging the public to provide full disclosures of any alleged irregularities or noncompliance regarding Housing Authority lot recipients.

Seeto says this includes any misconduct by the staff in the execution of duties relating to lot allocation.

She says members of the public will also be requested to provide their views on reforms that are required at the Housing Authority to serve its customers more efficiently.

The Public Inquiry Committee includes the Consumer Council of Fiji CEO Seema Shandil, Lanieta Lomalagi who is an analyst with Reserve Bank of Fiji, Tarlochan Singh who is a council member of the Fiji Institute of Accountants and Nazia Ali who is a legal officer with the Solicitor-General’s Office.

The inquiry will begin on 28th of August at the Nadi Civic Centre from 12pm to 2.30pm and 4.30pm to 6.30pm, at the Lautoka City Centre on 29th August from 10am to 1pm, at Rishikul High School on 1st September from 7pm to 9pm, at Vunimono High School on 2nd September from 7pm to 9pm, at Davuilevu Methodist Primary School on 8th September from 7pm to 9pm and at Tamavua Primary School on 9th September from 7pm to 9pm.

In the Northern Division, the inquiry will be held at the Labasa Civic Centre from 12pm to 2.30pm and 4.30pm to 6.30pm on 4th September and from 10am to 1pm on 5th September.
