Looking for a water source for their daily activities will be a thing of the past for 23 families residing at Sauva Settlement in Buiduna, Nausori after the Minister for Health, Dr Atonio Lalabalavu, commissioned the Sauva Settlement Water Project.

For 87-year-old Sera Lomolomo, the commissioning of the Water Project brought back fond memories of how she and her late husband struggled to establish themselves in the area they now call home 60 years ago.

Lomolomo was in tears as she took her first sip of clean drinking water after the Minister commissioned the water project.

Another resident said that for a long time, they have been searching for a good source of clean water, and now they have clean water in their community.

He says they had raised this to the previous governments, and he is thankful that this government has managed to answer their prayers.

He further says that the water problem has been an issue for the community since he move to the area when he was 4 years old.

While commissioning the project, Minister for Health Dr Atonio Lalabalavu says this is a momentous occasion not only for the community of Sauva but the Ministry as well.

He says there are seven standpipes around the community, and the next phase is that they are going to try to assist the community with sanitation by having flush toilets and an indoor shower.

The project was funded by the Health Ministry with a cost of $7,000.
