There has been poor turnout in a number of schools around the country with most of them reporting less than 50% attendance however a few schools in the Central Division have 90% of students in school today.

Years 12 and 13 students are back from their two weeks break while students from Years 8 to 11 are returning to the classroom for the first time since April 20th last year.

According to reports, around five schools in the Northern Division have less than 50% attendance with one recording just 32%.

We have received reports that only 18 out of 43 students turned up in one classroom of a prominent school in Suva.

Fijivillage has also been told that some teachers are finding it difficult to get the students to wear masks in this school as not all students are adhering to this protocol and the school also does not know how to follow the two metres physical distancing.

In another school just outside Suva, only 80 out of 274 students showed up today.

Attendance in a school in Navua was below 50%.

A prominent school in Lautoka has told us that around 70% of students have returned for face to face classes today.

The Ministry of Education is expected to release official data on the school turnout tomorrow.
