Police want the nightclub hours to be reduced as they face many challenges in relation to the safety of the people.

Chief of Operations, ACP Livai Driu says some of the challenges faced by the police force when monitoring the nightclubs and their hours are criminal activities recorded, the safety of the citizens and its impact on the community.

He also says the groups of people in towns who harass people during the odd hours create a risk, especially to market vendors when drunkards come out of the nightclubs.

And as the Coke Games continues, minors or people below the age of 18-years-old should not be entertained or allowed to enter nightclubs.

ACP Driu says nightclubs that entertain or allow minors in the clubs will be taken to task as they must abide by the law. He also says security officers and bouncers in the clubs must check ID cards if suspicious of patrons being under aged. ACP Driu says previously some nightclub owners were taken to task for allowing minors into the clubs and he warns that this should not be repeated.

The consultation on the review of the nightclub hours will be held in the western division next week.
