In ensuring that this year’s Coca-Cola Games is a drug and incident free event, officers from the Police Special Response and K9 Unit will be pushed forward to assist with operations.

Chief Operations Officer Assistant Commissioner of Police Livai Driu says they have met with the Games Committee, and have reaffirmed their intention.

He says while Police will be putting in place measures leading up to the start of the meet on Thursday, what is needed is the support of the community at large.

The Police Chief Operations Officer says traffic officers will be conducting random checks and are warning students and supporters that they will not hesitate to confiscate items such as flags if they see it is being used in an unsafe manner.

ACP Driu says they have also spoken to bus operators who have assured them of their support in ensuring that what transpired last week isn’t repeated where students were seen behaving in an unruly manner.

He adds they cannot stress enough the need for parents and guardians to continuously talk to their children about their behaviour because once they are involved in any form of illegal activities and the matter is reported, the Police will have no choice but to pursue investigations.

ACP Driu says this can be avoided if we all work together.
