Fijians living in low-lying and flood-prone areas are advised to keep monitoring the weather situation and advisories, and take necessary precautionary measures.

Chief Operations Officer (COO) Acting Assistant Commissioner A/ACP Livai Driu says officers are on standby to assist those impacted by flash flooding, however, Fijians are urged to be proactive in light of the current weather situation.

A/ACP Driu says those living near rivers and creeks are to remain vigilant and keep a close watch over their children.

He is advising all Fijians to refrain from swimming in swollen rivers and crossing flooded roads.

He adds that Community Policing officers will be visiting residents living near these areas and advising them of necessary safety measures to adopt.

The Acting Assistant Commissioner says motorists will have to adopt safe driving practices to avoid accidents as visibility will be limited and road conditions a safety threat.

He reiterates the earlier warning for everyone to take heed of the weather advisories and repeated calls made to be safe, as complacency will lead to injury or loss of life.

He adds warnings and advisories are issued for the safety of the general public and must not be taken lightly.
