There will be heavy police presence along the Kings and Queens highways this weekend as a number of people are expected to travel after the containment borders in Viti Levu were lifted this morning.

A number of people living in the Western and Central Divisions have not seen their loved ones for almost 5 months now since the borders were erected in April this year.

When questioned on what will be done to ensure law and order is maintained on our roads, police say their traffic division will be out conducting random breathalyzer tests, spot checks and radar operation along the main highways.

They are once again urging people to be vigilant and take all precautionary measures and to keep in mind that COVID-19 safe measures are still in place.

Police say they understand many people have made plans to travel this weekend and they are pleading for people to plan their travel ahead of time to avoid rushing and speeding.

They say 7 people have lost their lives because of speeding so far this year which is why they are asking people to be careful at all times.
